Burnaby's newest SkyTrain station is set to open six weeks ahead of schedule.

The Lake City SkyTrain station is set to become the city's 10th stop on the rapid transit line when it officially opens to public service on the morning of Friday, Nov. 21.

"It's opening ahead of schedule," said Dave Geddes, media relations officer with TransLink. "Right now, the station looks like it's complete on the outside, but we still have to finish work on the signage and some work on the electrical systems."

The station, which is located on the Lougheed Highway near the Global TV studios, was added onto the Millennium SkyTrain Line at the insistence of Burnaby city hall.

Burnaby council is now hoping that TransLink and the provincial government will back down from their current plan to build the Richmond-Airport- Vancouver (RAV) rapid transit line. Burnaby would like to see a new Coquitlam rapid transit line built next, connecting Lougheed Town Centre to Coquitlam Town Centre.
